The 10th Ulleungdo Squid Festival (run by the Ulleung-gun County Office) will be held from August 3rd to 5th at the Jeodong Harbor in celebration of these unique sea creatures that are as wiggly as they are delicious! Events will take place on the heavenly island of Ulleungdo, famous for its quality squid and squid cuisine.
On August 3rd, this three-day festival will kickoff with a special calligraphy performance and other acts by invited artists. There will be a booth where visitors can sample some complimentary squid dishes and a ritualistic ceremony to pray for a bountiful harvest of squid.
The real fun, however, is when participants are invited to get up-close-and-personal with our favorite cephalopod. During the festival, visitors can participate in more than 30 squid-related activities including: a sea fishing contest, a squid cooking competition, sorting blocks of frozen squid, catching squid with your bare hands, squid disembowelment, and riding a squid boat.
For even more fun, there will be a variety of side events including an exhibition of photos from Ulleungdo Island and Dokdo Island, a boat show, and a Pungmul (folk music) performance. At the end of your visit, make sure to stop by the souvenir section to check out the local specialties and pick out the perfect souvenir to remind you of your day among the squid.
