Sunflower Festival Blossoms in Taebaek City

Enjoy the scent of sunflowers in Guwawoo Village!
Mt. Taebaeksan (태백산) is turning a brilliant yellow as sunflowers all along this 59.9-hectare area unfurl their petals and stretch up towards the sun. Come and celebrate this magnificent sight at The Sunflower Festivals from July 30th – August 29th in Guwau Village (구와우마을) located in Hwangyeon-dong, Taebaek-si City (in Gangwon-do). Visitors are invited for a leisurely walk around the fields of sunflowers to take photographs, as well as take a look at the photo exhibits depicting the area’s sunflower/wildflowers and the overall beauty of Guwau in the Alpine Botanical Garden (고원자생식물원).

In addition to festivity events, visitors are welcome to join in the bonfire held every Saturday from 7-8pm: a perfect chance for stargazing and to hear the fireside concerts. The Guwau Alpine Botanical Garden will be also be hosting its own weekly event. Every Saturday, nature documentaries will be shown, with a special Samulnori performance held on the 15th and the musical “Happy Prince” scheduled for the 16th. Exhibitions of sculptures and engravings will be displayed by Hal Gallery and Hal Photo.

Walk along the dirt path and you’ll soon see why this area ranks among Korea’s top 40 flower paths. Make sure to bring a pair of sneakers and a jacket with you!
