[Korea] August comes alive with the sounds of Rock N’ Roll!

Summer is the season of rock in Korea, with several major rock festivals taking place all across the Korean peninsula. From beaches to mountains, rockers from both home and abroad are gearing up to give audiences a veritable smorgasbord of quality music performances. Keep reading for more details!
 


Jisan Valley Rock Festival

Dates: July 30, 2010 - August 1
Place: Jisan Forest Ski Resort in Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do Province

The Jisan Valley Rock Festival will feature 15 internationally-renowned rock bands including MUSE (an English alternative rock band), Pet Shop Boy (a pioneer of electronic music), and Massive Attack (a representative team of the genre trip hop). For the first time in Korea, 26 domestic teams including 3rd Line Butterfly, Sister’s Barbershop and Jang Gi-Ha & the Faces will all come together for four super large-scale performances.

The 4th Hwajinpo International Peace Rock Festival

Dates: August 2, 2010 - August 3, 20:00~23:00
Place: Hwajinpo Beach’s Special Performance Stage in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do Province

A total of 11 rock bands from Korea and abroad will make a special appearance at the Hwajinpo International Peace Rock Festival. Headliners include Cherry Filter, Black Hole, Kang San-Eh and Huckleberry Finn from Korea, We Need Surgery from the USA and MIC MARKET from Japan. There will even be an autograph event during the two-day festival, where fans can snag the autographs of some of their favorite artists.
 
 
Woodstock Festival 2010

Dates: August 6, 2010 - August 8
Place: Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park in Paju-si Gyeonggi-do Province

With an anti-war motto of “freedom, peace, and equality” Woodstock Festival 2010 will be held at Korea’s DMZ Peace Park in Paju City. The world-famous rock group Santana will be participating in the festival, making this their first performance on Korean soil. Other popular rock bands and artists will also be in attendance, including Simple Plan, Mamas Gun, Smile Empty Soul, and Keri Hilson.

The 11th Busan International Rock Festival

Dates: August 6, 2010 - August 8
Place: Dadaepo Beach’s Special Performance Stage in Saha-gu, Busan-si

A total of 22 rock bands from 5 countries will present powerful performances for Korean and international rock fans. The line-up includes the American hard rock band, FireHouse, the Swedish metal band, Hunted and the hardcore band, King Rich from Hong Kong. Boo Hawl (also known as Born Again), YB, and Crying Nut will be proudly representing Korea at the show. Admission is free.
